Is your home too SMALL?

Is your home too SMALL?

At some point in your life, whether you have lived in your home for a year or longer, your home starts feeling too small for you. Should you stay and extend your home, or sell and move on?

Should I stay and extend or SELL and move into something bigger?
Is your family growing in numbers and you’re struggling to find a place for all your belongings? Maybe you’ve lost a guest room or office. Some point in your life you will end up asking yourselves “Should we stay or should we go?”

Not all homes can be extended. Some have already been stretched to their limit, leaving you with putting up with what you have or selling and moving on. To help you make an informed choice together this handy guide to walk you through the options.

Being stuck in lockdown for 64 weeks may have helped your decision and made you realise that your home is just too small and that you need more space.

If you are on the fence about moving, here are our 9 points that should help you work out if you are ready to take that plunge

1. Money
Look at your current expenses. Sit down and make a list of all your incomings and outgoings. Yes, you may be currently able to extend or convert your home but will you see a return on your investment when you decide to sell it?

2. You’ve outgrown your home
There’s only so much clearing out and de-cluttering you can do until you realise your current space just isn’t enough for your anymore. If your belongings are bursting out and there are no where else you can put them it may be time to accept you just need more space!

3. Your family is expanding
Maybe when you moved into your current home you were child and pet free. But now years on you may be thinking of expanding or even have one on the way! Moving into a bigger home may be the next step especially as you will be needing more space for toys, kits and games that you may have overlooked before.

4. Change of lifestyle
If you are thinking of a change of lifestyle it may be worth thinking ahead if your home can accommodate everything you need. Perhaps it’s time to find a home with space for a studio, office or whatever you are going to do in your next chapter.

5. You’re ready for a challenge
If you have spent a lot of time, effort and money on making your current home just right, it can be hard to walk away from it. But if you are bored and want to start again you could be ready for the challenge to put your stamp on a new place! You may have chosen a different kitchen but it is too expensive to replace, moving to a new home and having a new clean slate can be really exciting.

6. You’ve started cooking at home more
If you can’t get enough of cooking shows but you feel like you can’t express your creative cooking skills then perhaps it is time to move to a home with a spacious kitchen with shiny surfaces, built in appliances and space to move around.

7. You’re sick of sharing the bathroom
Do you crave a peaceful evening with your bath that is uninterrupted by someone needing the loo? Sick of there being no toilet roll or towels left when you need to use the shower? You need an en-suite, a space for just you and your partner to have some peace and pamper time.

8. You want to cut the commute
Commuting to and from work can take hours out of your week. Just think, you could be doing much more important things like indulging in your hobby and just enjoying after work time. Moving closer to work has a lot of benefits.

9. You’ve found love
Finding love doesn’t mean you should move in together right away but if you are seriously considering permanent commitment, buying a new home that you can enjoy together and that is big enough for you together is the next logical step.
