Students - Welcome to Aberystwyth

Dear Students, we're excited for you to stay with us and we really hope you enjoy your time here in Aberystwyth. Here at Alexanders we will be everything we can to make your time with us a pleasant one and if you need us we are available 24/7.

Moving into your Student Accommodation.

Picking up your keys

Once you have signed your contract and paid your deposit you will have secured the property for moving in. When your moving date comes around, you will need to pop in to collect your keys. These will have already been cut for you and all you will need to do is sign for them in the office to prove you have received them. Once you have picked up your keys from our office (located on Terrace Road, Cambrian Chambers SY23 1NT, near KFC and opposite TSB Bank) you'll make your way to your accommodation.

Road Closures

At the moment due to COVID-19. There are new social distancing rules with some of the roads in the town. If you travelling by car are moving in after 11am, you may find the road your accommodation is on, may be closed off by the Ceredigion County Council. Do not worry, there is a warden on each road. Simply, explain you are moving into your accommodation and need to unload your belongings and they will let you through.

We usually allow tenants to pick up their keys from 12pm onwards so if you would like to arrange to pick up the keys before the road closures, let us know in advance and we can get everything ready for you before 12pm.

When you are settled in, you'll receive an email of your inventory, this was done before you moved in to document the condition, the furniture included and the meter readings.

Setting up and Paying your Bills

When you move into your property remember to take the meter readings for the gas, electricity and water. This is to avoid any additional charges added to your bills that may have been from the last tenants. Remember to keep on top of your television licence! It is illegal to watch television without a licence and you could face up to fines and even being taken to court. A television licence can be paid for monthly and it will apply for the entire household.

If you haven't already, you can set up a standing order with your bank so that rental payments can come out automatically on the 1st of every month. If you need the form then please let us know and we can get that over to you immediately.

TDS – Tenancy Deposit Scheme

Your deposit is protected by the Tenancy Deposit Scheme. Once you have agreed and signed your inventory list, you should not have any deductions from your deposit so as long as you have not caused any additional damage during your tenancy.

Your Accommodation and Bedroom

We hope you love your new home and your bedroom. Please make sure that you keep your home clean and wash your hands regularly. These are key factors in helping stop the spread of the virus. It might be worth getting hand sanitiser for your household so that you can keep yourself and your neighbours safe.

COVID-19

The current guidance from Welsh Government is to keep your distance from other people who are not part of your household or extended household. You must stay 2 metres (3 steps) away from others when outdoors and in enclosed spaces outside the home setting (such as in shops).

Please make sure that you keep track of the local news to find out if any local lockdowns come into force. If this does happen, you may not be able to leave the property for a period of time. With this in mind, you should familiarise yourself with the local shops and ensure that you are able to do food shopping online, if you need to.
