How we can help Landlords in Ceredigion with the extended "Eviction Ban"

BREAKING NEWS January 8th 2021. The Eviction Ban has now been extended until February at least.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the government announced a temporary ban on evictions in the private rental sector to prevent tenants from being made homeless at a time when they needed to stay in place. However, whilst the ban has protected vulnerable tenants, it’s also given some tenants a free pass to engage in anti-social behaviour and stop paying their rent, without fear of being evicted any time soon.

The ban on bailiff-enforced evictions for private renters has been extended in England and Wales.

This will be until February 21 “at least” according to Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick.

There is also to be a "mediation pilot" to support landlords and renters locked in eviction disputes; details of how this will operate are to come from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government later.

Anti-eviction campaigner Vicky Spratt has taken to Twitter to say the ‘bailiff-enforced’ element of the ban is “not enough.”
Scotland extended its ban yesterday to last until late March.

Despite the problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the NRLA says most tenants have been able to continue paying their rent. Of the 16% of tenants who have struggled, 75% of them have been able to work it out with their landlord.

We are grateful that most of our landlords are willing to be flexible to keep tenants since it is beneficial to all parties if a reliable, long-term tenant can continue with their tenancy.

Sadly, this does not happen to everyone. Have you had an experience with nightmare tenants? Are you waiting to serve an eviction notice once the ban is lifted? If so, please get in touch with our lettings team 01970 636 010 or lettings@alexanders-online.co.uk and see how we can help you.

Take care,

The Alexanders Team.
