When you are trying to sell, you want your home to look its best and the rain can not only dampen your garden, but your spirits as well. If you have viewings booked and the weather is the typical welsh weather, you can still make your home look wonderful. Here’s how:
First impressions
First impressions are so important. In this wet and cold weather you will need to be mindful of bringing the wet and cold weather inside the house.
Have a strict rule with shoes, get them off at the front door. This way you are avoiding the dead leaves, mud and damp from entering your property. We understand the dog lovers will still have to walk their pooch what ever the weather, just be mindful that a non-doggy lover will be very sensitive to any aromas of wet dog.
It’s all in the lighting
During the Winter months, darker skies during the day can make it seem like evening. To get around this, it is important to light up your rooms. Even if its grey outside, open your blinds and curtains. Turn on all of your lamps as doing so makes the home extremely warm and welcoming.
Make it cosy and warm
There’s nothing worse than viewing a cold home at this time of year. Freezing kitchens and bathrooms, draughty corners and feeling damp all mean viewers can’t wait to get out of there. Not a good way to see the potential of your home.
If your home is a little chilly, turn on the heat! You really want the temperature inside to be a nice and comfortable level to make the buyers want to stay, especially when the outside is cold. A mixture of the lighting and the heat will make the home seem really cosy and warm, giving the viewers a positive vibes after they leave. You want your buyers to feel warm and welcomed. What would you prefer…. A cold and dark house, or walking into a well lit and heated hallway? I know which one makes me feel at home. Scented candles are my favourite. Have subtle fragrances to provide the finishing touch. If you have a real fire, light it! There’s nothing more welcoming than a lovely roaring log fire on a cold evening. Your buyers will love it, and in turn, fall in love with your house.
Refreshments
We recommend that you are not present for viewings as it doesn’t allow the buyers to say how they really feel. We want their honesty to help you with what you could change for next time. I love going on viewings where the owner has left a nice tray of biscuits with a little message. You would do it for a special guest, so why not treat your buyers the same. If you are present offer viewers a hot drink and a comforting treat, like a piece of homemade cake.
Photos of your home
If the buyers are really interested in your home, they are going to want to see the garden in its full glory. If the rain is pelting and the wind is blowing – of course you can bring out the umbrellas and take them outside for a small tour. Ideally you could have some great lifestyle photos of your home on sunnier days, show them although its raining today – it shouldn’t put them off. You can show them why the garden and home is perfect in the sunny weather.
